Digital Illustration

Here is my first final digital illustration. Before getting to this stage i had to produced a number of illustrations, pick 2 then develop them until i found my final outcome which i then had to digitally produce.

Here i produced my first chosen illustration that had to closely relate to my artist of influence who was Jasper Goodall. The tools i used to create my illustration was the shape tool, this helped me create most of the things displayed in my illustration. I also used the letter tool to create the arms. The letter i used was 'C'. To get the full effect of my artist of influence all i really did was match up some of the colours used in his piece such as the pink, black and grey with the plain white background. I feel it looks quite plain but really has good creativity which will look great in my final poster design.

Here is my second chosen illustration i digitally designed in illustrator that closely related to Peter Saville. The tools i used for this illustration was the shape tool. I used a range of shapes to create an accurate looking tape that will be used in my final poster. To match my artist of influence i simply took my illustration and added the bold yellow and black colour that Peter Saville used a lot in most of his designs that i see on the internet and also the chosen image i chose to recreate. I feel that my illustration is effective as it relates well with the 80's and also stands out with my artist of influences colours.

Yiying Lu

Yiying Lu
Yiying Lu is one of the most promising designers of Sydney, Australia. She was born in Shanghai, China, and is a confident artist with many attractive designs and illustrations in her portfolio. She runs her own design studio & teaches design at the University of Technology, Sydney. Her dream job is to furnish visual refreshment to the current Google logo.
Here is a piece of work created by Yiying Lu. I feel this illustration has been created by the pen tool because of its awkward lines and designs. Also the shape tool looks like it has been used to create the little circles that flow accross the page. This piece has very intricut designs and patterns that flow amoungst the page to create a detailed effect. I feel this gives it an attractive look and also different because of the designs used to make up this piece. The colours black and red both create a 80's feel as the red really glows while the solid black helps the glow to stay under control.
Using intricut patterns for my poster design would make it look more interesting to looks at, while still linking with what the poster is advertising which is a catwalk as a catwalk really is unique and full of differet patterns and designs.

Here is a second piece of work created by Yiying Lu. This piece looks like its been created by shapes that have been curved, cut and shaped to make this beautiful piece of work. The sky blue background colour really gives a calm relaxing effect that stands out and makes this piece put you in a greater mood. The solid orange and white colours used really are bright which makes this piece look refreshing and positive. This helps bring it together and make it an outstanding, simple but modern illustration. The sharp edges on all parts of the image gives it a deluxe finish which really makes it look clean and attractive.
The sharp finish on all parts of the image really give it a crisp finish which i feel is a key aspect in what i will include in my poster design.

Peter Saville

Peter Saville
Peter Saville, born on the 9th of October 1955 in Manchester, is an English art director based in London. Saville attended St Ambrose College. He studied graphic design at Manchester Polytechnic (later Manchester Metropolitan University) from 1975 to 1978. Peter Saville is famous for the design of record sleeves for Factory Records artists, most notably for Joy Division and New Order.
Here is a piece of work created by Peter Saville. I feel that this piece is tremendous! This piece of work looks like confectionery items have been scanned in and merged to create this diverse effect. I like the way that confectionery logos are merged together to form a background because it looks really creative and unique. I felt that this idea was smart as putting designs together as a background insted of straight colour really makes this piece look interesting and eye-catching while still having bright colours making it an exellent captivating piece. The type used has also got confectionery logos merged together. Although this is a creative idea, i feel it makes it look a little confusing and difficult to read what it says when first looked at, however the thick bold shadow helps give away the letters which i feel is great help to read and stand out.
The use of imagery instead of plain colour really does give it a different feel which i could include in my design as it stands out and would look creative in a poster form.
Here is second piece of work created by Peter Saville. This piece of work looks like it was created by repeated rectangles with block colours placed in a 45 degree angle next to each other which gives a bold and alluring look to it which really draws your attention. The black and yellow colours used help this design stand out as one is dark but bold and one is light and bright. The typeface has a creative effect with the small rectangle cut outs which look faboulous as it relates well with the rectangular repeated background.
The use of repeatitve rectangles look bod and certaintly with creative colours used to fit the 80's style this illustration would be a great one i could use in my poster design.

Keith Haring

Keith Haring
Keith Haring was born on May 4, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania, and was raised in nearby Kutztown, Pennsylvania. He developed a love for drawing at a very early age, learning basic cartooning skills from his father and from the popular culture around him, such as Dr. Seuss and Walt Disney.
Here is one piece of work created by Keith Haring. This piece of work has a lot going on. The little monkeys scattered on the page makes you look straight away as it looks interesting because of all the different things going on. The colours used in this piece are very bright which really makes this piece look attractive. Also the colours used reminds me of the topic we are focusing on which is the 80’s because of the sharp glow coming from all the colours which sets an exciting mood. This piece looks as though it has been drawn up and then scanned into some sort of software and then made the lines thicker and added powerful colour which i feel makes everything look bold and eye-catching which creates an interesting cartoon effect.
I really like these glowing colours and bold lines as these aspects could be transformed into something that could later be used in my design which would help it to stand out.
Here is a second piece of work created by Keith Haring. This piece of work also has a lot going on but its less easy to pick out whats really going on. This helps draw maximum attention as i was looking for a while figuring out all the little designs in this piece. The red background colour used in this piece looks really warm and bright which sets a great mood when looking at it. Its also eye-cathing which is great as it helps draw attention. The bold lines help the designs to look more attractive and also make it clear however it does make this piece look quite cluttered but this does have an advantage as it makes this piece look unique, creative and also interesting.
These colours are both colours that were used in the 80's so i could consider this when it comes to my deisgn stage as they stand out and set a great mood.

Jasper Goodall

Jasper Goodall
Jasper Goodall was born in 1973 in Birmingam, England. Jasper Goodall was at the forefront of the reinvention and rejuvenation of illustration in the late nineties and helped pave the way for the huge resurgence of the medium that we have witnessed in the last ten years.

Here is a interesting piece of work created by Jasper Goodall. I feel that part of this was created first by drawing and then being scanned in and copied up into a lovely final design and another part was with lines, shapes and symbols which looks great on the page. This style of work is quite plain however it has a lot of interesting factors such as the solid black upper body with the faded grey lower half which really make this piece look diverse. I like that there is not much colours used as it helps all the designs on this piece of work stand out in there own way, however if there was more colour used it would look so much more attractive.
I could use this black solid into faded grey effect in my poster design for text, or maybe even an illustration i create could be done in this way as its very unique.

Here is a second piece of work created by Jasper Goodall. This piece is an amazing piece. My reasons for this is that the whole image has its own bits of creativity. The image of the black women with stars in really sets a glamours feel to this piece while the colours of the smoke and the circles really give it a nice effect as they stand out but look really calm and subtle. The storm at the back really fits in well and makes this piece look really exciting and interesting.
I could use a really glamours star effect in my poster design as it will relate to what my poster is for and also make it look more luxurious and different.

Helen Huang

Helen Huang
Helen Huang is an illustrator born and raised in China and currently living in Los Angeles. She has a passion for illustration and is currently working as a full-time designer for an interactive ad agency.
Here is a piece of work created by Helen Huang. This piece of work looks like most parts were created with the shape tool such as all those coloured circles sybolising her hair and possibly the brush tool for the outlines. I feel that the dark red shows leadership and courage which links with the womens eyes being closed. I feel that the red background colour looks subtle which i feel really goes with the calm looking design of the womans face. The coloured circles help make this piece stand out and also makes it look unique and alluring.
The coloured circles could be used somewhere in my poster design to give it a unique twist while it standing out and catching the eyes of the people that see it.

Here is a second piece of work created by Helen Huang. This piece of work looks like its been sketched and then applyed to a software and then edited with the drawing tool. This piece uses great colour that looks relaxing but stands out with great creativity that flows gently accross the page which i feel makes this a successful and attractive piece. The hair going in different directions and covering most of the page with its smooth, bright colours really gives this piece a sunny summer feel while drawing in your eyes.

I could create a flowing colourful design that covers most of my poster design to make it automatically pop out at my audience and draw them in immedietly.

V&A Experience|80's Day Experience

V&A Evaluation
On the 5th of November me and my Graphics Design class went on a trip to the V&A in London which was a provocative experience which helped me gain great knowledge about the 80's.
We first started off touring the V&A taking in the superior atmosphere admiring all that there was too see. There was a number of floors with vast amount of cabinates on each with unique objects inside them. I took a lot of images of the atmosphere and the objects being shown in these cabinates as i felt this could later help when it comes to the design stage. I felt that walking around the V&A was an incredible experience as there was so much things to see that really looked amazing as they were different, creative and unique.
We then went to the 80's section and took in all there was too see while taking pictures. The 80's section was bright and also creative with different designs from furnature to posters, they all looked immense. This stage i felt helped me gain a better experience on the 80's as i got a real feel of what some of the styles and colours that were used in that stage of time.
After looking at this section we then had an exibition to attend to. We had to go round taking in and writing notes about the fashion designers. This gave me a deeper insight on the 80's fashion design industry. There were many big glass enclosures with two bright colours in each as the background. Inside them there were many creative fashion designs and brochures from famous fashion designers which gave me a better feel of the colours and quirky styles used in the 80's which really could help when choosing the colour scheme for my type or my background on my poster. The one fashion designer that stood out to me was Michiko Koshino. Mainly because it was the first enclosure but not only that, the sportswear clothing Michikio Koshino made was very interesting and creative. His oversized trainers were different which really gave me an idea for design while i was there.
Overall i felt that this was a great experience which i really enjoyed. This part of research will help a great deal as i learned a lot about the 80's which really is going to help when it comes to the design stage of this project.

80's Day Evaluation
After an interesting day of getting the 80's feel i had a great time learning new things and also experienced a different way of learning which i felt was great and helpful as it really can inspire me towards my idea's and final outcome.
Firstly we all seporated into groups and had to decide on a theme which relates to the 80's. My group had the topic politics which we felt was a difficult one as it was hard to add expressive creativity in our work however i really did learn a few aspects from this topic such as how it came around and some of the main slogans that were used and who they were created by. After picking our theme we then looked into famous political slogans that could be painted on our 5 white wooden boards. We found a few but the ones we liked most were from an English fashion designer best known for her political t-shirts called Katharine Hamnett. We chose the slogans Peace, Education Not Missiles, Use a Condom,  Save The Future and Choose Life to paint on our 5 white wooden boards. This step i felt was facinating and easy as i was learning new things about the 80's and they all related well with our theme.
We then went onto painting these slogans on our 5 white painted boards in the colours black and red as these colours relate to Katharine Hamnett's famous designs. I felt that this process was great fun as it was a different way of working to how we normally work which i felt was a interesting experience.
After painting our boards we then had to pick some music that closely related to our political slogans which we was going to play in our final presentation. We looked at a few artists and their songs such as Nena-99 Red Balloons, The Specials-Too Much Too Young, Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer and Kate Bush - Army Dreamers. This stage was an interesting and diverse process as i listened to music that i have never heard before, although i dident like the music i got a real feel of the style of how 80's music really was. After listening to these songs we chose to use Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer as it had a real kick to it and also related to our painted boards.
After picking our piece of music for our final presentation we had to come up with a creative routine to present our final pieces of work to the tutors and our felow class mates. We chose to walk in slowely like robots, place our boards down while shouting them out, then ending it by praying which relates with the song we chose and also has a purpose because of the meaningful slogans on our boards. I felt that this presentation wasnt very creative nor expressive however it linked with our designs, music and also went well.

Overall the 80's day was an outstanding experience  as it gave me different insperations as i got to see other classmates presentations which really gave me great ideas that can be used for further development. I also learnt a lot about the 80's which gave me a better insite when it comes to the deisgn stage.
